Curiosity Research Decks

“How can I present text-heavy reports in a more compelling and engaging way?”

Client: Curiosity

Scope: Publications, Infographics

Challenge

Curiosity is a design strategy firm that focuses on drawing out insight through local research.

The nature of the work means that, more often than not, the fruits of their labors are inherently data-heavy reports. But how can they convey the insights to their clients and stakeholders, without overwhelming them with text-heavy documents that they will barely have time to read, let alone process?

Curiosity invited Pushpin into an ongoing collaboration to design and present the concluding reports of their various research projects. The goal was to communicate in a manner that would be clear, concise, and compelling, so that clients spend less time poring through the research and more time taking action based on the insights drawn from them.

Solution

Pushpin made use of visuals design principles to convey information.

We took the raw manuscript of each report and applied a clean, minimalist template inspired by the firm’s visual identity. We also made use of visual elements as markers and cues, to help readers navigate through the report. We then developed a library of hand-drawn icons that are easily customizable and reusable for various types of reports. We also, as needed, took raw data and visualized them as graphs, charts, or any visual tool that was appropriate.
